Job Description

Collaborative Pianist / Music Program Assistant

Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church

Littleton, Colorado

Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church is a progressive spiritual community rooted in connection, curiosity, and love. Music is at the heart of our worship—not only as something we share with the congregation, but as something we build together.

We see our music ministry as a kind of playground: a space where singers and instrumentalists can try new things, take risks, and grow—creating something beautiful and meaningful in the process.

We are seeking a collaborative pianist and multi-instrumentalist who is both grounded and imaginative: someone who can anchor our choir with strong piano playing and sightreading ability, while also bringing flexibility, creativity, and a desire for shared music-making.

The Role (Part-Time)

  • Thursday choir rehearsal (7:00–8:30pm, late Aug–end of May)
  • Sunday service (9:00–11:00am; 1st Sundays off)
  • 2–3 hours weekly preparation

Compensation: $6,901 annually

Who You Are

  • A confident pianist withsolid sightreading and SATB part-reading skills
  • A multi-instrumentalist who isn’t afraid to occasionally pick up a guitar or a tambourine
  • A collaborative musician who enjoys creating with others
  • Comfortable supporting congregational singing and working with volunteer choirs

What You’ll Do

  • Provide piano music for worship (hymns, prelude/postlude, offertory, transitions)
  • Rehearse and accompany the choir with a spirit of encouragement and exploration – we’re not that interested in perfection!
  • Collaborate on music selection and help to shape each service musically, attending monthly programming/planning meetings.
  • May be asked to support and rehearse with soloists and ensembles
  • May be asked to support with music for church events (memorial services, community events, etc.)
  • May occasionally be asked to lead rehearsal in the Music Director’s absence

To apply, send a resume and brief cover letter to Matthew Cox, Director of Music Ministry [email protected]
