Job Description

Position Summary Provides evidence-based vision care to ensure patients health and wellbeing by recommending and prescribing medications and other treatment options (e.g., red eye, LASIK surgery, cataract surgery) using evidence-based care guidelines. Delivers routine vision care, educates patients and store associates on eye health including contact lens care, disease state management, and safety factors. Recommends appropriate patient follow-up, consults with other health professionals, prepares and coordinates patient care plans in accordance with optometry scope of practice per state board, provides referrals as needed to ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals, and follows up regarding outstanding diagnostics or other patient information. What you'll do Evaluate patients' health conditions across the full vision center scope of service, including visual acuity, visual function, eye health keratometry, and refraction to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Review complete patient medical history and perform comprehensive eye examinations using observation instruments and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity and perception focus, coordination, and identify signs of vision defects. Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids; order, interpret, and assess diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, Optical Coherence Tomography). Develop treatment plans based on patients' clinical presentation using evidence-based care guidelines. Represent the company by delivering exceptional customer service through all patient interactions, maintaining and updating patient information in vision center systems (e.g., BOSS) in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner. Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) with best practices and procedures, ensuring adherence to state, local, and federal healthcare regulations and Walmart vision center guidelines. Perform administrative and retail tasks (financial transactions, patient registration, retail transactions) and collaborate with internal stakeholders (pharmacist clinics, store management) and external stakeholders (healthcare professionals) to ensure overall coordinated and integrated patient care experience and high-quality customer service. Analyze business objectives and customer needs, develop and implement business strategies, plans, and practices; incorporate cost and forecast analysis into business plans and support resource requirements. Lead improvement opportunities, promote a customer environment, and sponsor continuous learning. Recruit, select, and develop talent; support mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school. Licensed optometrist in good standing in state of practice. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $135,000.00 - $200,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
