Registered Dietitian Nutritionist | Culinary Nutrition & Gastronomy Expert | Translating Food, Culture & Science into Impact About Project Angel Heart: Our Vision is for all Coloradans living with severe illness to have access to nutritious food that supports their health and well-being. To that end, we compassionately deliver comfort and support through high-quality nutrition services, including medically tailored meals, while also advocating for the principles of “Food is Medicine.” This year, we will prepare and deliver more than 800,000 meals to more than 5,000 people living with cancer, heart failure, HIV/AIDS, and other illnesses. Position Overview: The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Project Angel Heart plays a vital role in supporting clients with serious illnesses by providing individualized nutrition counseling, conducting meal analyses, and ensuring meals meet medical and dietary needs. This full-time, on-site position involves collaborating with kitchen staff to tailor recipes, educating clients and staff on nutrition, and developing resources aligned with current dietary guidelines. Ideal candidates are credentialed RDNs with experience in chronic disease nutrition, motivational interviewing, and group education. Amount of Time & Status: Full-time, on-site, exempt position Reports to: Director of Client Care Core Responsibilities: Keep up to date on evidence-based nutrition recommendations and practice guidelines for the various disease states of the organization’s client population (i.e., Dietary Guidelines, the Nutrition Care Manual, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics). Provide evidence-based nutrition education and counseling to Project Angel Heart clients living with complex medical conditions. Answer all nutrition-related questions from referral partners and provide education to staff, volunteers, and other constituents as requested. Collaborate and assist Client Services Team to support client experience and safety through creating/reviewing nutrition-related staff resources, ensuring materials reflect appropriate nutrition standards, allergen information, and culturally relevant guidance. Work cross-functionally with Client Services in processes such as new client intake, meal plan assignment, triage of client nutrition-related calls/questions, and referral coordination. Conduct nutrition analysis to identify trends and set ingredient caps on kitchen production sheets to meet nutrition standards. Create and update meal labels paying close attention to allergens and other ingredients of concern for complex medical conditions. Collaborate with Chefs and Kitchen staff in the menu update/design process, recipe refinement, and ingredient substitutions to align meals with nutritional standards. Facilitate classes and support groups to help clients incorporate their nutrition goals into their lives. Participate in monthly meal Quality Assurance audits reviewing tastings, label accuracy, adherence to standards, and client satisfaction analysis. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred. Experience with motivational interviewing and nutrition counseling skills. Experience in food service, food production, or clinical or long-term care preferred. Familiarity with state/federal nutrition programs (e.g., OAA, SNAP, WIC) preferred. Familiarity with evidence-based nutrition standards for individuals living with chronic illnesses (i.e., end stage renal disease, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HIV/AIDS, etc.) preferred. Commitment to continuing education and learning. Familiarity with ESHA nutrient analysis software or other nutrition analysis preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); ability to tailor tone and complex nutrition topics to a variety of audiences. Willingness and ability to work with diverse populations. Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation preferred. Working Environment/Physical Activities: Working environment is an office setting, with time spent in an industrial kitchen. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer; standing for an undetermined amount of time; conducting business over the telephone and via email.
