40% of fourth graders in this country read below grade level. At OpenLiteracy, our mission is to change that, one student at a time. We offer a suite of products and services designed to meet students and educators where they are: a purchasable reading curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, Tier 2 intervention support for classroom educators, and high-impact, individualized Tier 3 tutoring. We don't just teach reading. We grow readers.
We're looking for passionate, certified educators to join our tutoring team and make a real difference in children's literacy outcomes across the country.
As an OpenLiteracy tutor, you'll work 1:1 with students in grades K-6 through our secure online platform, using a curriculum designed by our team. No lesson planning required! Sessions are 25 minutes each, and you'll be matched with the same students over time, giving you the continuity needed to build the trusting relationships that struggling readers need most.
Great OpenLiteracy tutors balance explicit instruction with meaningful engagement with text, weaving comprehension into every step so students can have rich, confident conversations at any reading level.
Fully Remote All you need is a reliable device, strong Wi-Fi, and a quiet workspace. No commute, no classroom setup, and no lesson planning.
Competitive Pay Tutors begin at a starting rate of $28/hour. You're also paid for student no-shows and late cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled time. You are paid for any tutoring sessions and meetings you attend. Initial asynchronous orientation is compensated at a flat rate of $100, contingent on completing your first 6 sessions.
Always 1:1 Tutoring All tutoring sessions are 1:1, meaning you can focus on building rapport and maximizing instruction for one student at a time.
Consistent Students You're matched with the same students session after session, so your relationship-building skills genuinely matter.
Onboarding & Coaching Support All tutors complete a comprehensive paid onboarding and receive ongoing support from our learning specialist team.
Breaks Aligned with Typical School-Year Schedules Tutors receive a week off at Thanksgiving, approximately two weeks off during the winter, and summers off. A small number of summer tutoring opportunities are available for interested tutors.
