General Description:

Position includes scheduling patient appointments, greeting patients in a courteous and professional manner, verifying health insurance benefits and obtaining all necessary authorizations and referrals, updating patient demographics and collecting patient payments. Assist Providers by providing clinical behavioral health services for clinic patients following the Practice's established standards and procedures. Works closely with billing to ensure accurate and timely patient insurance and demographic updates and ensure that daily patient charges are submitted. In addition, the position's assignments and scheduled hours may vary to provide quality health care.

Duties:

  • Welcome patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries, determine needs and direct accordingly while exhibiting excellent customer service.
  • Provide patient check in and check out. Verify patient insurance eligibility and complete demographic updates. Collect co-payments and patient payments on accounts.
  • Assist Provider with exams, treatments and procedures as directed. Perform/directs patient care services including, but not limited to, admission interview, accurate documentation, TMS services, etc. Maintain patient flow throughout their visit.
  • Schedule, cancels and reschedules appointments and procedures as necessary.
  • Assist with patient questions related to referrals, authorizations, and insurance.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by obtaining, recording, and updating personal, referral and financial information.
  • Update patient records with medications, history, personal medical history and social history, current patient information, etc. Ensure patient is appropriately prepared for the care encounter.
  • Scan information into patient's chart for Provider review; preload chart information for upcoming appointments; prep charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Communicate effectively via phone, fax, and other methods with insurance companies, specialists, providers, staff and patients concerning referrals and prior authorization.
  • Triage phone calls. Notify Providers of necessary questions and document. Return patient calls.
  • Schedule tests per Provider orders, answer patient questions regarding same and note in patient's chart.
  • Import labs into patient's chart; enter lab values into the patient's chart.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for services and medications as required.
  • Maintain neat and well stocked Clinic area including reception area and exam rooms.
  • Participate in communication with the clinic and public relations programs. Attend office meetings and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude and approach with patients while ensuring confidentiality of patient and practice information.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Exhibit flexibility in the workplace and take initiative in offering to help other colleagues when needed.
  • Participate in performance improvement and quality assessment.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, certification as Medical Assistant preferred.
  • 3 years of experience working in a medical office setting.
  • Able to communicate with patients and staff.
  • Make an excellent first impression and present the office in a positive, professional manner.
  • Able to multi task and accomplish much with many interruptions.
  • Aware of the need for discretion and confidentiality relating to patients.
  • Willing to accept orders and to perform repetitive tasks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
