Job Description

LOCATION: Moorestown, New Jersey (Primary freelance work remote/off-site; limited in-person collaboration required)

TYPE: Freelance/Contract – 1099 Independent Contractor Position (Part-time, supplemental/second job or moonlighting opportunity)

HOURLY RATE: Commensurate with experience Posted by: An established furniture design studio (anonymous posting to maintain discretion)

ABOUT US

We are a seasoned furniture design studio with a proven track record in creating exceptional, high-quality pieces. Our collections are licensed with over ten manufacturers, and our designs are featured in more than 250 stores nationwide. We collaborate regularly with high-end interior designers around the world. Our unwavering focus is on superior quality, superior craftsmanship, and thoughtful design—we never cut corners.
We specialize in solid wood furniture made in the USA, partnering closely with skilled Amish builders in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. While we incorporate some veneers, our emphasis remains on solid wood, with selective use of metal and mixed materials to enhance functionality and aesthetics.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a talented freelance furniture designer for part-time, supplemental collaboration (average 10-15 hours per week, with actual hours varying—potentially more or less—based on current project needs and workload). This is explicitly not a full-time position and is well-suited as a second job or moonlighting opportunity alongside other professional commitments or clients.

The role involves developing innovative furniture design concepts for licensing opportunities and private clients. Most work is performed remotely and independently using your own tools, software, and methods. To support effective collaboration and alignment on vision, we require the ability to meet face-to-face at our design studio in Moorestown, New Jersey, approximately once per week (or as mutually agreed for specific project reviews; these brief meetings are the primary in-person element and do not dictate daily operations or hours).
Key Responsibilities

• Independently conceptualize and refine furniture designs that align with our general aesthetic guidelines while bringing your creative expertise.

• Adapt concepts as needed for licensing partners or private clients, incorporating elements like veneers, metal, or mixed materials where appropriate.

• Produce detailed 3D models, renders, and presentations using your preferred industry-standard tools (strong proficiency in Fusion 360, KeyShot, Rhino, or comparable software preferred).

• Communicate proactively and respond promptly to emails, texts, or calls to keep projects on track.

• Participate in occasional in-person studio meetings (typically 1 per week) for feedback and direction, with all other work handled remotely and at your discretion.
Requirements

• Solid knowledge of furniture design principles and construction techniques (e.g., joinery, material properties of solid wood/veneers/metal, structural integrity, manufacturing feasibility, especially with USA/Amish craftsmanship in mind).

• A cursory understanding of current trends in the furniture and interior design business.

• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., Fusion 360, KeyShot, Rhino or equivalents).

• Genuine passion for furniture design, interior design, and fashion, supported by a strong, relevant portfolio.

• Flexibility to learn, adapt, and work within our established style parameters while maintaining your independent creative approach—we value diverse skill sets and a growth mindset.

• Exceptional reliability, strong work ethic, and professional communication: timely responses, ownership of deliverables, and no-excuses delivery.

• Ability to reliably travel to Moorestown, NJ, for occasional brief in-person meetings (this is a key collaboration element but does not involve on-site daily work or supervision).

• Portfolio samples required—please include links or attachments showcasing your furniture or related design work.

• Willingness to sign a standard non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and consulting agreement upon engagement to protect proprietary information and project details.

• Must operate through your own established LLC (or equivalent business entity, such as a sole proprietorship formalized as an LLC) for all compensation and contractual purposes—proof of entity registration required upon engagement. If you do not currently have an LLC, you must set one up prior to starting work.

• References from 1–2 recent clients (or equivalent professional contacts who can speak to your freelance design work, reliability, collaboration style, and communication) will be requested from finalists during the interview process—please be prepared to provide contact details (name, relationship/role, email/phone) if selected for further consideration.

WHAT WE OFFER

• Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and contributions (paid to your LLC as a 1099 independent contractor—no tax withholding, benefits, or insurance provided).

• Flexible, project-based work with variable hours to fit around your other commitments.

• Opportunity to contribute to high-profile, USA-made solid wood collections with national reach.

• Ongoing freelance collaboration potential as our licensing and private client work evolves.

• A quality-focused, collaborative environment where independent designers can thrive.

If you're an established freelance designer seeking supplemental, part-time work on premium furniture projects—and you operate as an independent professional with the autonomy to manage your schedule and methods—we'd love to connect. Apply through Coroflot with your resume, portfolio, a brief note on your independent freelance practice (e.g., other clients, LLC/business setup, and availability for references if requested), and why this opportunity fits as a moonlighting role. Looking forward to potentially collaborating!
