English/History Tutor (Part-time)

2026-2027 School Year

Position Description

The Achievement Center seeks creative and knowledgeable part-time English and History tutors to provide academic support for our Upper School students. Tutors provide individual support to students through weekly scheduled appointments. Applicants must have at least three years of previous tutoring and/or teaching experience with high school humanities courses. Experience with tutoring/teaching AP English/History courses desired.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Meet with students at the school during Achievement Center hours (M-Th 7:45 am-4:30 pm, F 7:45 am-4:00 pm) for weekly scheduled sessions
• Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying English/History concepts
• Assist students with specific topics that require instructional support or warrant further exploration, review recent assignments, and work through concepts or questions that require re-teaching
• Teach strategies for annotating texts, organizing essays, and constructing evidence-based arguments.
• Guide students through all stages of the writing process, from idea development to revision.
• Utilize proven study strategies to prepare students for upcoming tests and quizzes
• Maintain ongoing communication with students, parents, and faculty members, including providing progress reports.
• Attend tutor training sessions and meetings when necessary Perform other duties consistent with the position of a Professional Tutor
